Summary
SUMMARY: Responsible for organizing and directing product testing activities throughout production cycles. Recommends changes in operating practices to satisfy quality requirements at the lowest practical costs. Develops and monitors performance of quality control systems to ensure continuous production of products consistent with established standards. Oversees the enforcement of safety and good housekeeping practices in the department.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Evaluates statistical data, product specifications, and normal operating parameters to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of finished product.
· Assists in trial planning, control, and standard operating procedure follow up.
· Assists in formulating sampling procedures and designs; develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.
· Coordinates objectives with production procedures in order to maximize product reliability and minimize costs
· Directs workers engaged in product measurement, inspection, and testing activities to ensure quality control and reliability.
· Lead the technical area i.e. the coaters and all supporting equipment.
· Maintains technical/lab equipment, standardize processes and procedures
· Investigates and adjusts customer complaints regarding quality.
· Plans, promotes, and organizes training activities related to product quality and reliability.
· Inspects disposition of discrepant material and assesses cause and correct description.
· Enforces plant rules and safety policies and procedures including housekeeping.
· Performs other duties as deemed necessary by the Assistant General Manager.
· Hourly personnel in the technical area will report to the Tour Bosses with a dotted line to the Technical Planner.
Qualifications
BS/BA ChemE, or other comparable certification preferred.
· Experience with coatings a plus.
· 1 or more years’ experience in general supervisory role preferred.
· Knowledge of inputs, outputs, raw materials, waste, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing the manufacture and distribution of goods
· Knowledge of policies and practices involved in personnel/human resource functions.
· Knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques
· Experienced in motivating, developing, and directing people as they work.
· Able to identify the best people for a specific job
Knowledge of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce motion, light, power, technology, and other applications
· Skilled in inspecting and evaluating the quality of products
· Knowledge of the composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
· Experienced in looking at many indicators of system performance, taking into account their accuracy
· Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
· Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
· Skilled in using mathematics to solve problems
· Skilled in using logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches
· Skilled in using scientific methods to solve problems
· Skilled in identifying the things that must be changed to achieve a goal
· Skilled in active listening. Able to listen to what other people are saying and ask questions as appropriate
