Purdue Extension to bring Poverty Simulation Workshop to Wabash County

Wabash, IN – Wabash County Habitat for Humanity and Purdue Extension invites community members, educators, social service providers, and local leaders to participate in a Poverty Simulation workshop on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This interactive event will take place at Bowen Health, 255 N. Miami Street, Wabash, IN.
The Poverty Simulation workshop is a powerful experience designed to help participants gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by individuals and families living in poverty. Through role-playing scenarios, attendees will navigate real-life situations such as seeking employment, accessing social services, managing household budgets, and addressing unforeseen crises. This eye-opening exercise fosters empathy, increases awareness, and inspires action to address systemic issues affecting vulnerable populations.
“The poverty simulation is an interactive experience designed to help participants begin to understand what it might be like to live in a typical low-income family trying to survive from month to month,” said Caroline Everidge, Extension Educator at Purdue Extension Huntington County, the facilitator.  “It is a simulation not a game. The object is to sensitize participants to the realities faced by low-income people.”
