Job Summary: The Vocational Coach for Growing Teens for Life is responsible for collaborating with the Director of Experiential Learning, Café Manager, Senior Manager, and residential treatment teams to ensure Interns are learning work skills to prepare for employment following residential placement. This person will work closely with other café, storefront, and greenhouse operations staff to ensure work assignments are meaningful to the business while helping interns prepare for the certification in the mentor’s area of oversight. Must demonstrate sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs of the service population within Josiah White’s. Qualifications: Must be a person with strong convictions who is also in agreement with Josiah White’s mission statement, Statement of Faith, and Code of Conduct. This person must be 21 years of age and prior experience working in a related field is required. Previous experience in designated areas is preferred. The Vocational Coach must function as a positive role model for teenage interns while they are working and learning in the Growing Teens for Life Program. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Primary Responsibilities: Experiential Learning Activities in the Café, Greenhouse, and Storefront Employability Soft Skills as agreed upon with the Director of Experiential Learning Collaboration with the Greenhouse Operations Manager or Café Manager Ensure all visitors and customers of 50 East have a pleasant and positive experience. Providing excellent customer service is a priority. Must be willing and able to intervene with difficult customers in an appropriate and positive manner. Oversee the safe and secure handling of money, inventory, and retail items within the 50 East. Maintaining café/store interior, keeping it clean and organized. Preparing daily reports of sales and charges. Inventory refill, money collection, and trouble-shoot when problems arise. Checking equipment on a regular basis for any defects. Assist Business Manager and Facilities Supervisor with other activities which may or may not be connected to the storefront. Perform day-to-day 50 East operations duties including routine cleaning and maintenance as assigned by the supervisor. Perform administrative functions in support of other Vocational Coaches and other Greenhouse management staff. Working with Interns Promote a Christ-Centered environment within the cottage and campus setting facilitating and/or supporting Family Teacher facilitation of devotions in the cottage setting; support Josiah White’s Chaplain and/or Spiritual Life Director in campus Spiritual Life programming. Serve as a mentor or facilitate a mentoring relationship with an appropriate individual as approved and agreed upon by the Intern’s Treatment Team. Agency Support and Enhancement Be a positive liaison between Josiah White’s and the Wabash community. Supervision of Interns Supervise Interns daily work-related tasks, activities, and chores. Provide teaching and coaching to Interns in areas such as: social skills, interpersonal relationships, personal hygiene, domestic skills, work habits, etc. Provide basic first aid for Interns and apply universal precautions procedures when exposed to bodily fluids. Engage in conflict resolution, intervene in crisis situations, and physically restrain Interns using MindSet training to prevent risk of physical harm to the Intern or another person. Complete other duties as requested by the Director of Experiential Learning, Greenhouse Operations Manager, or Café Manager.
