POSITION SUMMARY: The Diesel Mechanic - B Tech will work alongside our team of shop employees to maintain fleet vehicles/assets and increase the efficiency of Wabash Trucking’s maintenance department.

REPORTS TO: Service Shop Supervisor 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintains a working knowledge of, and moderate skill proficiency in the following vehicle components and systems, with the ability to perform preventative and repair maintenance functions, both on-site and on the road.
• Chassis component repair and maintenance.
• Truck bodies, including control, hydraulic and electrical systems; Air and hydraulic braking systems.
• Engine repair and maintenance.
• Suspension, drivetrain, and steering systems.
• Heating and air conditioning systems.
• Line maintenance welding and fabrication.
• Identifies the source of the malfunctions using a variety of electronic tools.
• Completes applicable company training programs.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Valid Driver’s License required.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Trade school diploma preferred.
• ASE Heavy Truck Certifications (T1 through T8) are a plus but not required.
• Class B or higher CDL is a plus but not required.
• 4+ years of experience as a technician working on heavy-duty trucks preferred.

COMPETENCIES:

• Extensive knowledge of all aspects of maintenance and repair.
• Proficient with related computer diagnostic equipment and software.
• Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues. 
• Ability to read service and repair manuals.
• Ability to read work orders. 
• Ability to complete required paperwork to document work and parts utilized.
• Ability to perform repairs in a timely manner. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Physical Activity: Talking, hearing, repetitive motion, stooping, crouching, standing, walking, lifting, and climbing stairs. 
• Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.  
• Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present. 
• Visual Acuity: ability to inspect repair work and determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
