Job Title: First Aid Assistant/Medical Coordinator
Department: Residential
Employee Status: Full time/Regular/Non-exempt
Qualifications: A Christian with strong convictions who is also in agreement with White’s mission
statement, Statement of Faith, and Code of Conduct. This position will be working with
and transporting male youth to appointments and taking care of all medical needs and
appointments.This person must have an interest in medicine and desire to work in the
medical field. He must be sensitive and able to discern a student’s medical needs. This
individual must be a team player who works well with a wide variety of people. Must be
at least 21 years of age. Must be an LPN, Medical Assistant, Paramedic or EMT. One to
three years relevant experience is preferred. Must be able to work autonomously, must be
able to prioritize, must be flexible, and must be able to manage the medical needs of
students.

Reports to: Campus Nurse and First Aid Supervisor
Job Summary: To ensure that each of Josiah White’s residential students/Residential and Recovery
Services students has his or her total health care needs met in an efficient and practical
manner. Must demonstrate sensitivity to our service population’s Culture and
socioeconomic characteristics and needs.
Basic Responsibilities
● Maintain accurate medical records on each student.
● Organize dentist trips and obtain transporters for dental trips, will also Transport.
● Prepare electronic med clinic records prior to Med clinic on Tuesdays. Prepare and collect data for each student.
● Obtain current vital signs for students being seen for med clinics.
● Scan monthly MARS and pain sheets into electronic medical records
● Assess minor illnesses and injuries and administer First aid.
● Learn computerized software, document all medical, dental, vision, and health care notes.
● Obtain medical history, make calls to obtain previous medical, dental and vision records.
● Administer student TB tests.
● Communicate with medical doctors, nurses, staff members, and students.
● Assist nurses, doctors, and Nurse Practitioners during visits on campus
● Case manage prescriptions and medical supplies when needed
● Conduct initial intake medical screenings with new students, which includes collecting medical history,
showing and documenting nutritional video and sexual health education, obtaining vital signs, conducting
vision, hearing and urine screenings, documenting necessary computerized charting, and arranging follow up
medical, dental, and vision appointments.
● Respond to Medical emergencies.
● Correspond with counties and parents on medical issues pertaining to individual students.
● Perform other duties as requested by Supervisor, Residential Vice President and Vice President/Executive
Director of Recovery Services.
● Properly discard discontinued medications.
● Educate students and staff in current and relevant health issues

● Conduct pre-release height, weight, and vital signs.
● General cleaning of work areas and equipment.
● Assist and maintain up to date Immunization records-will require learning access to CHIRP
● Assist with administering staff TB and flu shots, if certified to do so.
● Ensure State Board of Health and DCS regulations for residential care facilities are maintained
Skills, Supervision, Knowledge, and Ability

● This position requires a person to work with a minimum of supervision. Must be organized and dependable.
● Must maintain current License/Certification.
● Must be able to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
● Must be trustworthy and able to handle Josiah White’s funds.
● Must be able to communicate (both talk and listen) to students, family teachers, referring agencies, and
physicians.
● Must be able to write legibly; take concise notes; and write letters to referring agencies and physicians.
● Must be willing to attend workshops, school, and other types of training to improve job skills and expertise.
● This person must be able to stay calm in crisis situations and assess medical emergencies.
● Must be committed to the mission, core values, and Vision of Josiah White’s.
Working Conditions
● 80 hours per pay (bi-weekly), eight hour shifts Monday-Friday, on call one evening per week and one weekend
per month. Set rotating on call schedule.
● Attend work regularly.
● Be prompt to work each day and be available to assist in medical emergencies
● Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to transport students to doctor’s appointments.
● Must be able to spend extended hours at hospitals and emergency rooms to assist students coming out of
surgery and medical emergencies.
Physical demands of Position
● Must be able to work with student’s medical problems. This includes exposure to bodily fluids.
● Must be able to assist in the physical handling of ill students- lifting, carrying, escorting, etc.
● Must be able to complete First Aid/CPR expectations per the Red Cross. Specifically, must be able to
get down to the floor and stand back up to perform chest compressions to the depth of at least two
inches and give rescue breaths which includes getting on knee(s) and leaning forward without putting
pressure on victim’s head.
● Must be able to complete the MindSet physical restraint techniques for residents who are in crisis
(expected to meet the requirements of MindSet physical restraints) in order to become certified. This
may include the following:
o Vertical Containment-Approach from behind the aggressor with arms raised. Initiate
contact with your forearms to the aggressor’s triceps and push the arms forward. Lead with
the foot and place the side of your head directly below the aggressor’s shoulder while
making chest to back contact. Your shoulders should be at a 45 degree angle. Find your
hands and grasp your wrist while pointing your elbows to the ground. Maintain chest to
back contact while alternating and widening your stance.
o Object Containment and Release- Assist a partner who has applied the embrace on an
individual using an object aggressively. Establish a position on the side of the aggressor
closest to the object. Secure the wrist. Using both hands, slide the thumb to a parallel
position with the fingers. Release the object by pulling up or pushing down. Throw the
object a safe distance away. Communicate with your partner and the aggressor to
determine direction.
o Leveraged Embrace- Approach from behind the aggressor with arms raised. Initiate contact
with your forearms to the aggressor’s triceps and push the arms forward. Step in and place
the side of your head directly below the aggressor’s shoulder while making chest to back

contact. Your shoulders should be at a 45 degree angle. Find your hands first then slide to
the aggressor’s wrist. Grasp each of the aggressor’s wrists and slide your elbow to the crest
of the hip. (Same side of the aggressor's body as your head). Leverage the hip forward with
your elbow while alternating and widening your stance.
o Assisted Relocation- From the leveraged embrace, go to the side opposite your partner’s
head. Take the grasp of the wrist opposite from you. Place your free hand on the shoulder
nearest to you. Stay close and communicate.
o Single Staff Follow Down- From the leveraged embrace, follow the downward movement by
going to the knee opposite your head while leaning into the aggressor. Use the momentum to
rotate the aggressor to his/her side while positioning your body perpendicular from the chest-
to-back contact. Spread your legs for stability. The individual’s shoulders should be
perpendicular to the floor. Maintain chest-to-back contact and elbow leverage.
o Duel Staff Bring Down- From the leveraged embrace, ask for assistance to take the aggressor
to the floor. Approach on the head side of your partner and secure the legs by dropping to a
knee and grasping the ankles in front. (Left to left, right to right).Plant the feet to the floor
and communicate with your partner. Go down on the knee opposite your head and use the
momentum to rotate the aggressor to his/her side. The shoulders should be perpendicular to
the floor. Stack the legs, make chest contact with the back of the knees, and forearm contact
with the thighs and shins. Lay flat with your legs spread for stability.
