Job Purpose/Objectives/Complexity/Financial Impact/Summary

Execute, direct and coordinate shipments into and out of the organization, both national and international. Organize and oversee a team of employees to ensure that products are properly loaded, unloaded, properly stored and direct truck drivers for proper delivery. Responsible for Purchasing including customs and associated documentation. Also must insure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Duties/Responsibilities/Tasks/Direct Reports

*Oversees the coordination and routing of shipments.

*Directly manages assigned direct employees, including those with tariff classification or billing responsibility. Also responsible for hiring & training assigned staff. Also oversees daily workflow, schedules, performance evaluations and employee relations of assigned employees.

*Directs dispatching and tracking of vehicles.

*Ensures that customer difficulties, vendor/supplier/contractor problems are investigated and resolved.

*Negotiates and secures appropriate contracts with transportation providers/customers, both international and national.

*Responsible for safety audits in assigned areas, including proper lifting and loading techniques.

*Maintains knowledge of best practices and regulations for cost-effective shipping, hazardous shipments, employee safety, proper and efficient loading/unloading techniques as well as freight classifications.

*Constantly monitors performance results (suppliers & customers) of dispatch, distribution and inbound/outbound shipments-with responsibility for continuous improvement.

*Collaborates with other managers to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals and objectives for Transportation/Logistics/Purchasing. Also collaborates with other departments & leadership to develop requirements for equipment, materials, products as well as acceptable substitutions.

*Monitors current material availability and predicts future availability based on market, delivery systems and other variables.

*Prepares market conditions and merchandise cost reports.

*Prepares and processes purchase orders as well as requisitions for materials, supplies and equipment.

*Establishes, evaluates and approves standards for any bid process.

*Reviews and analyzes expenditures and other financial information to develop and implement plans, policies and budgets.

*Monitors freight movement (with appropriate software), as well as appropriate production schedules-both internal and external.

*Maintains/implements recordkeeping systems.

*The company representative in supplier negotiations.

*Coordinates removal /disposal of surplus materials.

Qualifications:
- Proven experience in transportation management, preferably in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of supply chain management principles and practices.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems.
- Proficiency in using transportation management software and tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

  • 8 hour shift
